With volume 42 of the My Hero Academia releasing on December 4, 2024, the final volume will feature 38 pages of original content unseen by fans. Taking place after the series’ ending, there has been plenty of speculation about what these new additions might mean for the story. The cover art for the final volume, unveiled in late November 2024, includes a mirrored version of MHA volume 1’s cover with one major difference. This time, Deku and his friends take the place of the heroes they had looked up to, and a new character stands where Deku once stood.

While My Hero Academia’s last chapter concludes Deku and Class 1-A's adventures, this is only the beginning of the new world they created together. While there's no confirmation this ending will launch a new chapter in the story featuring a whole new host of heroes-in-training, the possibilities for exploration are endless. My Hero Academia fans had a myriad of romantic pairings they were hoping would become canon before the end of the story. There’s the ever-popular BakuDeku ship, the foreseeable KamiJirou pairing, the wholesome MomoShoto couple and more. It came as a surprise, and a slight disappointment for fans to learn that Horikoshi hadn’t made any of the predicted ships canon.

Having at least one or two ships happen among the characters of class 1-A would give this superb story about the meaning of heroism more depth, especially since there were quite a few plotlines focused on family. The manga has been running for over a decade, which means many of the story's earliest fans grew alongside Deku and his friends.

MHA Fans are Still Curious About Hisashi Midoriya

Izuku Midoriya's father, Hisashi, was introduced by name only and is said to possess a fire-breathing quirk, as well as a job that involves him working overseas and away from his family. Unfortunately, that’s all that fans were given about the character. Horikoshi did claim that Deku’s father would officially appear in later chapters, but with the manga having ended, Hisashi Midoriya is nowhere in sight.

It’s likely Horikoshi did not feel it necessary or fair to bring Hisashi into the fold so late in the series, especially with everything that the Deku and Inko have already gone through together. But the new story offers the possibility of Hisashi finally making his debut. It would give fans a proper answer about the kind of man the father of a world-changing hero is.

Eri and Kota represent the next generation of heroes. Eri was a little girl who was cherished by the entirety of class 1-A after surviving a harrowing experience under the abuse of Kai Chisaki (aka Overhaul). And Kota became Deku’s biggest fan, as he strove to become a great hero like his mentor. The final chapter of the My Hero Academia manga reveals that Kota becomes a student at U.A., and Eri is living a normal life attending school with her friends.

Exploring how these two precious characters are faring as students in a reformed Hero Society would add to the hope-invoking theme of the younger generations living off of the friendlier world that Deku and Class 1-A built. There is a small panel in chapter 430 of Eri and Kota holding hands. This left some readers wondering if they ended up becoming a couple as they grew older, and having confirmation of that would be nice.

As a former victim of the Commission’s corruption and manipulation, Hawks has resolved to create change that leads to a more honest and friendly future for the organization, and MHA fans can trust that Hawks has nothing but good plans.

It would add greatly to the idea that Hero Society has improved by showing the kind of things Hawks has done using his new position and what the Commission is doing differently. Fans are also curious to see the kind of people that Hawks employed to help in creating a more easy-going future, especially since he did attempt to recruit his former predecessor, Lady Nagant.

A Glimpse Into the Todoroki Family After All They Went Through Would Provide Closure

One of the most well-written aspects of My Hero Academia is the entire situation concerning the “hellish Todoroki family.” By the manga’s end, the wayward Touya Todoroki was defeated and apprehended by the combined efforts of the family he turned his back on. He’s later seen in a severe, almost vegetative state where he barely has the energy to converse, but the Todorokis still watch over him and visit him to make sure he doesn’t feel forgotten.

It’s a heartfelt resolution for a family that has experienced so much trauma and turmoil, but it’d be more gratifying for fans to see how the other members of the Todoroki family are faring post-war. A deeper look into Endeavor’s current relationship with his wife and children, as well as getting to see more glimpses of the lives of Shoto, Fuyumi, and Natsu, will make the Todoroki storyline feel more complete.

While there are a lot of mixed feelings about Naruto’s sequel series, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, life-long fans of the franchise, enjoyed getting to see a new generation of ninjas living in the world that their parents created. My Hero Academia’s ending presented the fact that many things about Hero Society have changed for the better, and MHA fans want to see something similar to what the Naruto fandom was given.

A changed world does not mean a perfect one, and so there may be other conflicts for the new generation to overcome. Meeting a new cast that is as fun and varied as the original Class 1-A and getting to see them resolve the possible problems that could arise in a reformed world could bring the whole series full circle, adding another layer of depth to a franchise that fans may not yet be ready to let go of.

The whole of Class 1-A, along with other U.A. students, became such a close-knit group during one of the most harrowing times in hero history. It'd be a loss not to explore how their relationships have evolved over the 8-year time skip.

He opted to mentor the future generations of heroes, becoming a teacher at U.A., rather than following his original dream of becoming a pro-hero.

Chapter 430 of the manga shows Deku getting a chance to be a hero once more after being gifted new hero-gear, which was created with the combined efforts of all his friends. However, fans didn’t get a chance to have a deeper look into his personal life as an adult or how the hero-gear changed it after eight quirkless years.
